Mason Jar Watermelon & Mint Margaritas
While I’d love to take full credit for this idea, I have to be honest with you all. The watermelon mint margarita recipe is my own creation—but the secret to prepping them ahead of time came from a soon-to-be family member. And trust me, it’s a game-changer!
The best part? These margaritas are portable! If you haven’t guessed yet, the magic lies in using mason jars. These Mason Jar Watermelon & Mint Margaritas are the perfect addition to your poolside party, beach day, or any summer adventure.
Tips & Tricks
This recipe is as simple as it gets—just toss everything into a blender and hit a button. No ice required! Instead, freeze the watermelon beforehand. This gives the drink a refreshing slushy texture without watering down the flavor.
Mason Jars for Easy Prep
Once blended, fill each mason jar up to the top line and seal it with the lid. If you don’t have mason jars yet, I highly recommend grabbing some—they’re affordable, endlessly reusable, and perfect for everything from cocktails to smoothies. (I even use them as backup blender bottles when mine go missing!)
Making Your Own Sour Mix
A margarita isn’t complete without a great sour mix. Here’s a simple DIY version:
- Equal parts fresh lemon juice and lime juice
- Mix that with an equal part of simple syrup
For the simple syrup, I prefer a lighter version:
- 1 cup water
- ¾ cup coconut sugar (for a richer, slightly caramelized sweetness)
Or, if convenience is key, feel free to grab a high-quality organic sour mix—there are plenty of great options out there! No stress, just good drinks.
The Secret Ingredient
Here’s a little twist that takes this margarita to the next level—cucumber. Adding cucumber lightens the drink, balancing the sweetness and making it extra refreshing. It’s the perfect touch for sipping by the pool or at the beach.
I hope you love these Mason Jar Watermelon & Mint Margaritas as much as I do! Let me know what you think in the comments, and don’t forget to tag @johnpalmerpayne if you share your creations.

Mason Jar Watermelon Mint Margaritas
Equipment
- Blender For blending the ingredients into a smooth, frozen margarita.
- 6 Mason Jars (16oz) To freeze and serve the margaritas in.
- Freezer Safe Container To freeze the watermelon cubes.
- Measuring Cups To measure the ingredients.
- Cutting Board and Knife For cutting the watermelon, cucumber, and garnishes.
- Spoon or Tongs For placing frozen watermelon into the blender.
- Reusable Straws and Watermelon Slices For garnishing and serving.
Ingredients
- 6 cups of ½-inch cubes watermelon
- ½ cup sour mix
- 1 cup silver tequila
- ⅓ cup triple sec
- ¼ cup orange juice
- ¼ cup diced cucumber
- Fresh mint leaves to taste
- 6 mason jars 16oz size
Instructions
- Freeze the Watermelon: Place the watermelon cubes into a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 3 hours or until solid.
- Blend the Margarita: Once the watermelon is frozen, combine it with the mint leaves, diced cucumber, tequila, triple sec, and sour mix in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Fill the Mason Jars: Pour the margarita mixture into the 6 mason jars, but be careful not to fill above the 16oz line to avoid overflow when freezing.
- Freeze the Margaritas: Place the mason jars in the freezer for at least 3 hours (or longer if you can resist!). This ensures the margaritas freeze to the perfect slushy consistency. Feel free to sneak one while you’re waiting!
- Serve and Enjoy: About 30 minutes before you plan to serve the margaritas, take them out of the freezer and let them rest to soften slightly. Give the jars a quick shake before opening. If desired, garnish with a watermelon slice or a reusable straw. Then, kick back, dip your toes in the water, and enjoy the refreshing bliss of your Watermelon Mint Margarita!
